Toddlers have their own “sensitive period” for learning, and Maria Montessori recognized the need for a rich, well-prepared environment to take advantage of this fertile period of cognitive development. In a Montessori Toddler classroom, children may work on pushing a cart, stringing beads, preparing a snack in the practical life area, or naming the parts of the body in the language area. Also in a Montessori classroom children learn the rules of grace and courtesy, to treat each other with compassion, and to resolve conflicts peacefully. Growing daily in security, confidence and independence.
