Newsletter March 3rd, 2017

I can’t believe that it is March already! We will be planting peas in the garden sometime this month, and we have a few works out about Ireland and spring time. We seem to have a growing contingent of children who remember to wear their green Gateway shirts on Thursday. It is really fun to look across the green room! We have started singing a song at line time that most children really like each year. Here are the words in case you are having a little trouble understanding. “Sitting on a fence post, chewing my bubble gum, playing with my yo yo. Along came Herman the worm and he was this big. I said, Herman, what happened? He said, I ate a _______” Then it repeats.

We have the results of the survey we have been doing for the last few months! We have talked to almost all of the parents in our community, and asked the following three questions, “What are we doing well? What could we do better? How would that make a difference for you?” We got a lot of good answers and valuable feedback. Thank you to everyone for the many nice things that were said about us. Also please feel free to let us know at any time things that are going well or things that concern you. We will be implementing some more nature play on the playground in the next few weeks by adding pine cones and other items from nature for the children to play with. Many people would like to hear more about what their children are doing from day to day. We are working with the company we use for record keeping to be able to send photos and explanations from the classroom at the time they are taken as I think that will be a huge help. We also have Parent/Child night coming up at school. Please be sure to sign up so that your child will have the opportunity to show you some of the things they have been working on!

One more item, I will be sending out a survey from Colorado Shines. We have applied to increase our quality rating from a level 2 to a level 4 and this survey is part of that process. I think it should be a very fast survey with only a few questions seeing as the one they sent for the teachers to fill out was only 8 questions. I think they will ask you if we survey our families and share the results, if we have Parent/Teacher conferences, if we do Parent Education and if we do community events or something similar. The playground fix up we did in August should count for the community event and I am sure that you all remember the other events. Thank you all in advance for your participation, this will really help our school!

Have a great weekend!

Warmly,

Reyn
